Berry fruit salad is the perfect side dish for a summer bbq, potluck or picnic. I make this summer berry salad at least once a week while berries are in season and inexpensive. It’s a great way to get your kids to eat their fruit. This is one of my favorite fruit salads along with tropical fruit salad and ambrosia salad!

Berry Fruit Salad Ingredients

To make this berry fruit salad you will need fresh raspberries, fresh blueberries, fresh strawberries and fresh blackberries. For the dressing you will want to have lime juice, poppy seeds and honey. You can garnish the salad with mint sprigs and lime wedges. If you want more berries, you should try my mixed berry smoothie, berry cheesecake salad or strawberry spinach salad!

How Do You Make Berry Fruit Salad?

Making this summer berry salad is as easy as 1, 2, 3. Simply rinse and pat your berries dry with a paper towel. Then slice your strawberries and toss them into a bowl with your blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. In a separate small bowl, mix together lime juice, honey and poppy seeds to make the dressing. Pour the dressing over the berries and toss everything together.

Tips For The Perfect Berry Salad

Gently toss the mixed berry salad with your dressing to keep the berries intact. You can make this berry summer salad up to 4 hours in advance. Make sure to keep it in the fridge until you serve it to keep the berries fresh. If the berries stay warm for hours, the berry fruit salad isn’t as inviting. Eventually, the berries may start to break down a bit in the acidic dressing if you wait too long to serve it. I don’t recommend using frozen fruit if fresh fruit is available. Frozen fruit can get a little mushy when it thaws. You could enjoy this berry fruit salad as a dessert with a little whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Flavor Variations

Changing up the flavors is a fun way to make this berry fruit salad your own.

Summer Fruit: Swap some of the berries out for other summer fruits such as watermelon or cherries. I also like to add other melon like cantaloupe or honeydew or fruit like orange slices or grapes. Tropical Fruit: Sometimes I go a little tropical and add fruits such as mango, pineapple or kiwi. Add ins: Some of my favorite add-ins are: lime zest, lemon juice, sliced almonds, whipped cream, vanilla Greek yogurt, shredded coconut, granola, white chocolate chips and crystallized ginger.

This berry fruit salad is the ultimate summer salad. It takes just minutes to whip up, and no one can resist a pile of fresh summer fruit! The honey lime poppy seed dressing turns an ordinary fruit salad into an extraordinary side that is sure to get rave reviews.
