You can never go wrong with a chocolate dessert, I typically make chocolate pudding cake or Nutella cookies when I’m looking for a chocolate fix. This fondue is also a great choice and it’s ready in just a few minutes. It’s also a great choice for Valentine’s Day along with a homemade heart cake.
How Do You Make Chocolate Fondue?
When you make this chocolate fondue recipe start heating heavy whipping cream in a large pan over medium heat. Add chopped chocolate to the pan and turn off the heat. Whisk the chocolate and cream together until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract and enjoy the fondue warm. Make this fondue part of a dessert platter with chocolate fudge cookies, cookie dough dip and smores fudge!
Tips For The Perfect Chocolate Fondue
You can use a fondue pot if you have one, a crockpot on low or simply use a small oven safe container with a tea light candle lit underneath it to provide a little heat to keep the chocolate liquid. I recommend using chopped chocolate bars rather than chocolate chips for this recipe. Some brands of chocolate chips contain stabilizers to help them retain their shape and they won’t melt smoothly. Use your favorite high quality chocolate for a great flavor. I recommend Guittard and Ghiradelli because they tend to melt well. To dip treats into your chocolate you can use fondue forks, regular forks or skewers.
Flavor variations
This is a classic dark chocolate version of fondue, but there are so many different ways to make a dessert fondue!
S’mores: Use milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate, then swirl in 1/3 cup marshmallow cream and top with crumbled graham crackers. Mint: Add 1/4 teaspoon mint extract and top with chopped Andes mints. Peanut Butter: Use milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate, then swirl in 1/3 cup creamy peanut butter. White Chocolate Raspberry: Use white chocolate instead of dark chocolate, and swirl in raspberry jam. Boozy Fondue: Try adding a splash of Chambord or Grand Marnier. Caramel: Try swirling in some caramel sauce. You can even add some chopped pecans for a “turtle” fondue.
What Goes Well In Chocolate Fondue?
There are so many different dippers that you can serve with fondue.
Fresh Fruit: You can dip strawberries, banana slices, apple slices, kiwi fruit and berries. Dried Fruit: Feel free to try dried fruit including apricots, oranges, mango, peaches, pears, apples, etc. Cookies and Cake: My kids love to dip sweet treats like cookies, biscotti, vanilla wafers brownies, brownie bites, Oreos, rice krispies treats and cubes of cut up angel food cake. Other favorites: Feel free to dip favorites like marshmallows, pretzels and donut holes.
I always keep a few chocolate bars on hand so that I can whip up some fondue at a moment’s notice! It’s a fun dessert that’s great for kids and is welcome at any special occasion.
