And yes, I know I look sixteen, but I swear, I am a fresh twenty-one. And oh my gosh, I am still a firm believer that drinking alcohol is so not for me. I have to admit that the only reason I made this fancy little drink is because my cousins are here. I love pleasing people, especially my cousins, so when they told me I should make a chocolate martini for New Years it sounded kind of fun, so I went with it. Since I was already making them, I thought it would be fun to share them on the blog, but wow, vodka kind of burns, and wow, I am not into it. But hey, I loved the truffles and they the loved the drinks, win/win for all of us!!

I have to say though, if I were to ever actually want to drink a martini, this would be my choice. I think the reasons are pretty obvious… hello chocolate!! And truffles!! All the truffles, please! Even though I personally did not drink this drink, my cousins and mother did. The verdict – delish, but they did say they are strong. I think you might be able to mellow them a bit with a splash of cream, but everyone agreed that they were good as is. These are actually another one of Mrs. Mooney’s recipes that she has been making since I have known her, and probably long before that. I remember her making them back when we still lived in Ohio and spent the week after Christmas up at my family’s cabin in New York. There was always a big group of us (some things never change) in a tiny little cabin, but honestly those are some of my best memories. We’d snowboard at Peek ‘n’ Peak during the day, make slushies with snow at night, and play rounds and rounds of Clue and Boulderdash. So much fun! There was a couple of years the Mooney’s joined us and I remember Mrs. Mooney making this drink. She made it solely for my mom because well you know, she is a chocolate freak. It’s the only martini my mom will drink. I remember thinking it was the prettiest most delicious looking thing. So decadent and festive.

Mrs. Mooney doesn’t make truffles to go along side her martinis though, that’s my little touch. Hey, I needed some chocolate too! But in a more solid, less boozy way. But you guys, these truffles!! They rule. I went with a little Mexican twist on these truffles because we also do Mexican over New Years and I wanted to carry on with that tradition. Nothing wrong with a little dulce de leche and chocolate mixed together with a little vanilla rum and salt. Nothing wrong with that at all.

These drinks are the simplest things to make. A tad on the expensive side, but simple. You just shake some vanilla vodka with a shot of light Godiva, a shot of dark Godiva and a splash of Baileys. Shake with ice and then strain into a glass drizzled with chocolate syrup. Sounds pretty good right? These martinis are total show stoppers, especially if you make the truffles to go on the side. Which you clearly should.

I mean, come on. That is a no brainer.

You can use whatever you’d like. Simply dipped in chocolate, drizzled in chocolate – or both – are my favorites. I’m not gonna lie, the gold leaf is pretty cool looking though, and WAY cheaper than gold, but I guess you’d probably expect that, huh? It IS real gold though, it says it’s 23K and certified by the LGA (whoever that is). No idea how that all works, but it is edible?

Anyway, the point of all this rambling is that if you are looking for something fun to make on New Years, these chocolate truffle martinis – along with the dulce de leche rum butter truffles, are your answer. You really do need to make the truffles too, they just melt in your mouth, I guarantee you’ll love them. Maybe I will come up with better selling techniques in the New Year, I hope so, but until then you’ll just have to trust me and try these.

Tomorrow I promise something a little less boozy and a little more cheesy!
