Cucumber salad is a ubiquitous summer favorite, and this version is no exception. The cucumber and feta pair perfectly for a unique salad that makes a great side dish for chicken, beef and seafood. When I want a cucumber salad, I make cucumber dill salad, Thai cucumber salad or this cucumber feta salad.

Cucumber Feta Salad Ingredients

To make this cucumber feta salad you will need cucumbers, a red onion, an avocado, fresh dill and feta cheese. For the salad dressing, you will need olive oil, red wine vinegar, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and black pepper. You can enjoy this salad with great summer dinners like flank steak in my flank steak marinade, Greek chicken kabobs, chicken souvlaki and Greek lemon chicken.

How Do You Make Cucumber Feta Salad?

When you make this cucumber feta salad recipe start by preparing your veggies. Slice your cucumbers, slice your onion, dice your avocado and chop your dill. Next, crumble feta cheese. Place the veggies and feta in a bowl. Next, make the dressing by whisking together olive oil, seasonings, red wine vinegar and mustard. Pour the dressing over the salad and gently toss everything together.

Tips For The Perfect Cucumber Feta Salad

There are various types of cucumbers such as English cucumbers, little Persian cucumbers and the traditional waxed cucumbers. You can use whatever type of cucumber you like for this cucumber feta salad. To remove the seeds from your cucumber, simply slice it in half lengthwise and use a spoon to scrape out the seeds. You’ll want to make sure the red onions are thinly sliced before adding them to your cucumber salad. I use a mandoline slicer to get paper thin onion slices. Use the feta cheese that comes in a brick. The brick style feta cheese either comes wrapped in plastic or in a tub of brine. The pre-prepared crumbled feta in tubs is often coated with anti-caking agents and doesn’t taste as fresh.

Flavor Variations

This cucumber feta salad is delicious and refreshing as-is; however, you can change the recipe to suit your own taste.

Creamy: Add some sour cream or ranch dressing to make the cucumber feta salad creamier. You can also check out my recipe for a traditional creamy cucumber salad. Veggies: You can add more veggies to this salad like kalamata olives, cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, sliced green onions, chopped bell peppers or chickpeas. Dressing: For a more acidic flavor, you can add a little lemon juice. Herbs: Feel free to add other fresh herbs like fresh basil, fresh chives, fresh parsley, fresh mint leaves or fresh oregano. You could even sprinkle a little of my Greek seasoning over the salad.

I’ll be making this salad again and again. It’s a nice way to use up those extra cucumbers from the garden. It’s always a big hit at any get-together. My kids love it when I make it as a side dish with dinner!
