Everyone loves cheesesteak sandwiches, and this creamy, cheesy dip has all of those same great flavors. I serve it for game day, or just when we’re looking to have a hearty snack. If you’re a Philly cheesesteak fan, you’ll also love my Philly cheesesteak stuffed peppers and Philly cheesesteak pasta.
Philly Cheesesteak Ingredients
To make Philly cheesesteak dip you will need butter, green bell pepper, onion, garlic, salt, black pepper, rib eye steak, sour cream, provolone cheese and parsley. Make a party platter with this dip and is some of my favorite appetizer recipes like pigs in a blanket, pizza muffins and steak bites with garlic butter.
How Do You Make Philly Cheesesteak Dip?
The first step to making this Philly cheesesteak dip is to heat butter in a pan and cook your bell pepper and onion until softened. Next, add garlic and cook for a few more seconds. Remove the veggies from the pan and set them aside. Wipe out the pan and melt more butter. Cook your steak and season it with salt and pepper. Beat your cream cheese and sour cream until smooth. Chop up the steak and place it into a bowl with the cream cheese mixture. Next, add the vegetables to the bowl and fold them together. Stir in half of the shredded cheese. Place the mixture in an oven safe skillet or baking dish. Sprinkle on the rest of the provolone and the whole thing goes into the oven to bake and broil until melted and bubbly. After your dip comes out of the oven, it’s time to serve it up with some dippers and enjoy!
Tips For The Perfect Philly Cheesesteak Dip
You can use any oven safe skillet or similar baking dish that you like. Make sure to soften your cream cheese so it will mix well with the other ingredients. This Philly cheesesteak dip can be prepared up to a day in advance and then stored in the fridge until you’re ready to bake it. I typically serve this dip with baguette chips, also known as crostini, which are sold in the deli section of most grocery stores. Other options are baguette slices, tortilla chips, potato chips, pita chips, pretzel chips, carrots or celery.
Flavor Variations
This recipe is delicious as written; however, you can customize it to fit your own taste.
Meat: I used finely diced ribeye steak which is the traditional choice. Other great options are flank steak, sirloin steak, ground beef or deli style roast beef. You could even use cooked and diced or shredded chicken breast. Spicy: Add some heat with some crushed red pepper flakes or add some hot sauce to your dip. Cheese: Not a provolone fan? Try mozzarella cheese, white cheddar cheese or white American cheese instead. Flavorings: Try adding sauteed mushrooms, bacon bits or Worcestershire sauce to your dip.
Philly cheesesteak dip is perfect for game day, parties and family gatherings. If you serve it with vegetables, it’s a great choice for those following low carb or keto diets. The flavors on this one just can’t be beat!
